Piece description from the artist
A black and white photo as a man works on the side of the the historic Cox Ford Covered Bridge spanning Sugar Creek near the western edge of Turkey Run State Park in Parke County, Sugar Creek, Indiana. You can see some canoes below it along the riverbank. Built in 1913 by renowned bridge builder Joseph A. Britton, the bridge was closed for repairs during our visit. Uniquely, it was constructed to replace a steel bridge destroyed in the devastating 1913 flood. Even more fascinating, the wooden arches used in its construction were salvaged from the Armiesburg Covered Bridge that was originally built 60 years earlier and also lost in the same flood. This bridge stands as a rare example of recycled historic architecture and remains a treasured landmark in Indiana’s covered bridge heritage.
