Piece description from the artist
The Vessel, a unique honeycomb-shaped public landmark at Hudson Yards in Manhattan, New York, reflects back the scene from the sidewalk in a dazzling array of individual vignettes of people and their activity on the ground. I was intrigued by the possibilities of creating an image that really made the viewer question what they were seeing and this collection of reflections perhaps achieves that.
Steve Heap has been a photographer for over 50 years now (which is frightening to think about!) but in that time he has developed an eye for what would make a striking piece of wall art. Photography is all about the light and his finest attribute is patience! Waiting for the conditions to be just right is the key to making a piece of art that you can be proud of. Of course, luck plays a part, but without that patience of being in the right place at the right time, it just becomes a snapshot. He focuses on capturing images from around the world – timeless shots that reward the viewer with insights as they spend more time with them!
