Piece description from the artist
A peaceful evening below a partly cloudy blue sky at the iconic Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, USA. The steady flow of the Mississippi River glides beneath the span, reflecting the soft tones of the fading light. A large barge boat drifts along the river under the bridge carrying heavy equipment which the river i known for. Stretching across state lines, the bridge connects Missouri to East Cape Girardeau, Illinois, carrying travelers along U.S. Route 74.
Completed in 2004, the bridge replaced the historic Cape Girardeau Bridge, blending modern engineering with regional history. It is named in honor of Bill Emerson, who represented Missouri in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1981 until 1996. Adding to its cultural significance, the bridge also made an appearance in the 2014 film Gone Girl, giving this scenic crossing a place in cinematic history as well.
