I captured this peaceful but bold blue hour scene while standing beside Utah State Route 313 near Moab, Utah, just as the last traces of sunset faded behind the towering mesa of Courthouse Pasture in the Sevenmile Rim area. Soft pink clouds linger across the deepening blue sky, adding beautiful color to the rugged desert landscape as evening settled over the red rock country.
From my vantage point along the highway, I could see a train parked on the railroad tracks at the base of the massive mesa. The combination of the colorful sky, the dramatic sandstone cliffs, and the line of railcars created a scene that perfectly captured the quiet beauty of the American Southwest. I love how blue hour brings a sense of calm to the desert, transforming the landscape with soft light and rich colors that make even familiar places feel extraordinary.
