Blue Evening Clouds Bill Emerson Bridge

Piece description from the artist

A tranquil evening beneath a partly cloudy sky at the iconic Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, United States. The Mississippi River flows below the bridge, its surface catching the soft glow of the fading light. A large barge drifts along the river, carrying heavy equipment, a familiar sight on this busy waterway. Spanning state lines, the bridge links Missouri to East Cape Girardeau, Illinois along U.S. Route 74.

Completed in 2004, it replaced the historic Cape Girardeau Bridge, combining modern engineering with regional history. Named for Bill Emerson, who served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1981 to 1996, the bridge also gained cinematic fame in the 2014 film Gone Girl, cementing its place as both a functional landmark and a scenic icon.
