Piece description from the artist
A massive adult bull bison enjoys a dusty roll in the grasslands of Badlands National Park near Wall, South Dakota. As I watched and photographed the him, it almost seemed as though he was putting on a show. Despite rolling and kicking around in the field, he frequently kept an eye on us, creating a memorable wildlife encounter.
Buffalo often roll in dirt and grass to help shed their winter coats, discourage insects, and maintain their thick fur. Watching such a powerful animal completely relax and toss its massive body across the prairie was both fascinating and entertaining.
Captured in the rugged landscapes of South Dakota's Badlands, this photograph showcases one of North America's most iconic wildlife species in a playful and natural moment. The combination of the bull's immense size, expressive behavior, and the open prairie setting offers a glimpse into the wild character that makes Badlands National Park such a remarkable destination for wildlife photography.
