The first movement in the series, Beige Oyster 1, texture and tactile form are captured in the light. The composition draws inspiration from the protective nature of the oyster shell, utilizing a layering of warm neutrals to symbolize the passage of time and the accumulation of natural history. By highlighting the sweeping, concentric curves of the oyster’s interior, the work reflects on the beauty of vulnerability and the quiet elegance found in the most subtle details of the natural world. A Lowcountry classic.
April is heavily influenced by the classical impressionists but strives to bring about elements of expressionism as well into her paintings. She uses color fearlessly and is always striving to "capture the light". April wants her paintings to invoke the feelings of her subjects and especially the wild feelings of being out of doors surrounded by the beauty of nature.
