In this piece, I wanted to explore the gritty, industrial soul of historic Butte, Montana, by capturing the raw geometry of a weathered brick facade tucked away in a back alley. By rendering the image in high-contrast black and white, I sought to emphasize the dramatic play of light and shadow cast by the zig-zagging iron fire escape, transforming a utilitarian structure into an intricate pattern of lines and textures. The peeling paint, old arched doorways, and rows of glass windows tell a silent story of working-class history and architectural resilience. This photograph is an invitation to look past the surface of urban decay and find a timeless, structured beauty within the forgotten, hard-worn corners of the American West.
Annie was born and raised in Montana, growing up on her family's ranch in the beautiful Smith River Valley. Growing up in Montana's wild and beautiful Landscape led to her deep love of nature and all things rural. Annie attended the Art Institute of Colorado and lived in Denver Colorado until the completion of her Interior Design degree in 2002. After working in that field for several years, Annie moved back to Montana and began her own business, focusing on her ever-growing love of photography. She began traveling the backroads and wilderness of Montana and the Rocky Mountain region and selling her photos professionally in galleries, shops, and online. She primarily searches for rural Landscapes, old barns, abandoned farmhouses, and occasionally wildlife she encounters. Her work as been featured in HGTV, Better Homes and Gardens, and featured in three books on emerging artists of the United States. She currently lives in Billings, Montana, and takes several trips during the year to gather new images.
