Piece description from the artist
A beautiful summer day view along the Missouri River at Berkley Riverfront in Kansas City, Missouri, featuring the historic Armour–Swift–Burlington (ASB) Railroad Bridge. The massive steel structure crosses the water beneath a bright blue sky dotted with fluffy clouds, creating a striking contrast between the historic bridge and peaceful riverfront.
Also known as the North Kansas City Bridge and LRC Bridge, the ASB is a historic vertical-lift bridge that opened in 1911. Its original double-decker design was unusual, with automobile traffic using the upper level and trains traveling below. After the Heart of America Bridge opened in 1987, the roadway deck was removed, leaving the railroad structure that remains today.
The bridge was recognized as a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark in 1996. I love how this scene combines Kansas City history, impressive engineering, and the natural beauty of the Missouri River.
