Piece description from the artist
A storm approaches Monument Valley as I stand at the Navajo Code Talker Outpost, also known as Artists Point, watching dark clouds roll in across the desert. Moments after capturing this scene, the area experienced a rare mix of hail, sleet, and snow. The warm orange tones of the sandstone buttes contrast beautifully with the deep blue and purple storm clouds above. There is a haze in the air giving it a mystical atmosphere. Iconic formations fill the landscape, including the East Mitten, Mitchell Mesa, Stagecoach, Big Indian, and others, some of which are located on the Utah side of the valley. Below, the loose sandy terrain of the Sand Spring area reveals shifting textures and sculpted shapes, adding depth and interest to this dramatic desert scene.
