Piece description from the artist
There’s something grounding about the forest trails in Mt. Rainier National Park. It’s easy to assume they were built when the park was established. But these quiet paths, worn by boots and shaped by weather and the tools of NPS staff, are often much older than you might imagine.
More than a route for hikers, these simple thoroughfares commonly follow ancient paths. Some trace the footsteps of the first people to live here, carved out of the land in search of food, shelter, and meaning. It’s humbling to imagine all of the human footfalls that landed before yours. It’s humbling to walk where so many walked before. Each footfall a part of our larger story on this land.
Mt. Rainier National Park, Washington
Currently located in Washington, DC, Scott is a native Floridian photographer specializing in landscape photography. His work explores the interplay of light and dark — rejecting the notion that photography is just “painting with light.” He seeks what resides in the contrast — the liminal spaces of the world.
Scott has shot in some of the most beautiful locations in the world, including Iceland and locations throughout the Old World. But some of his most inspiring locations are right at home in America's enchanting National Parks.
