Against the Odds, Capturing the Moment

Piece description from the artist

So at this moment of giving up, this moment of liminal space, of neither here nor there – that is the moment I wish to capitalize on in my painting practice. Neither here nor there. Skilled and unskilled. I have been painting “stripes” for more than 2 decades and I still don’t know what I’m doing. They still aren’t stripes by the way. The point when we acknowledge our personal limitations, with awareness of striving and fear, there is chance to open up to space. The moment, the materials, the thing happening in space, is so much greater than what any one of us can bring to the table individually. Yet all are granted permission. Better stated, it is our birthright. The great Mahamudra masters can hang on this space in the battle field. The novice may have a glimpse during meditation. I attempt to practice in the rarified environment of making paintings.
