Tomoko Takeda

My painting practice combines representational images of the natural world and abstract patterns and forms that are embedded in nature. Referencing Asian religious art and patterns from biology, textiles and ancient architecture, I explore the beauty and wonder of the diverse life forms that surround us. My fascination with organic forms began when I worked as a chef. Handling and looking at organic material up close on a daily basis allowed me to observe the geometric beauty and mathematical perfection underlying the natural world. The rhythm and balance within them filled me with wonder.
