About the Artist

Tim Peterson doesn’t take himself too seriously, He wants his work to be enjoyable, so much so that even his subjects are enjoying what they are doing in his relief prints.Through Ogden’s Eccles Art Center, Tim rediscovered youth in retirement through teaching grade school kids printmaking as an artist-in-residence for an hour or two at a time. He is grateful to "raise heck" in their classroom while just having some good old fun.

Tim is currently working on a series of prints entitled “Stinky Thompson, his dog Skippy, and his dad Panama Thompson in the red rock country of southern Utah.” He hopes viewers can enjoy the art half as much as he enjoyed creating it. His driving creative philosophy is "when are you too old to be a kid?"

" For Art’s sake, or just for Fun?

Born on a mountain top in Tennessee… Oh, wait, that was Davy Crockett. I was really born and raised in Salt Lake City, and after 5 years of college in the 1960s at the University of
Utah with quarter of school to go, I discovered I could draw and paint. The art department there had a condensed study of art on an extended road trip to Mexico, and I jumped at the chance. We ate, slept and breathed art 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It was an eye-opening experience, and I grew as an artist. But I didn’t want to stay in school for another
3 or 4 years only to become a waiter like the rest of my art student friends. Instead, I earned my degree in Sociology. I wanted to save the world, but instead I became a ski bum, baker,
and ski lodge photographer.

To make a long story short, life got in the way of my art more baking and pastry, cooking, marriage, family and divorce. I went back to college later in life and earned my BFA, or in other words, a real license to be a starving artist. So for the last 30 years or so, I have been a pastry chef by day and artist by night, ever improving my skills in illustration, photography and printmaking.

Upon retirement, I found out I was a ski bum for way too long I guess I forgot to work! But boy did I have a enjoyable time. Since retiring, I discovered that Weber State University, where I am taking Relief Printmaking classes. Man-oh-man is it great to finally be able to be an artist 24 hours a day! I have become a reductive color relief printmaker, and I’m loving it. "
