Jennifer Wilkey is an interdisciplinary artist working in a variety of mediums to examine the experience of illness.
Originally from the Midwest, she received a B.F.A. in photography and a B.S. in anthropology from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville. In 2009, she graduated with an M.F.A. in photography from Syracuse University. There she remained for a few years, working for artist Carrie Mae Weems and teaching photography at the university as well as a handful of neighboring elementary and high schools.
She currently lives in Maine where she continues to teach—now at the University of Southern Maine—and works for ArtVan, a mobile arts therapy program. Her artwork has shown frequently in exhibitions and screenings in the U.S. and abroad, including recent exhibits at the Center for Photography in Woodstock, NY and the Soho Gallery for the Digital Arts in New York City. In 2010, she was awarded a Professional Scholarship Grant from the Lucie Foundation in Los Angeles to fund a photography project about her developmentally disabled brother.
