Piece description from the artist
This vertical fall season photograph captures the remains of an old water wheel near Bennett Spring State Park and Sand Spring in the Ozarks of Missouri. The once-functional wheel has collapsed into the creek, its structure broken by the powerful force of recent floods. It appears to have pushed with such intensity that the stone wall holding the axle finally gave way. Framed by the rich colors of autumn foliage, this scene near Lebanon, Missouri, reflects both the history and raw power of nature in this region. Bennett Spring, one of the state’s earliest parks, is fueled by a natural spring that produces an astonishing 100 million gallons of fresh water each day.
