Wildflower weatherford 2020

Wildflower, Weatherford. 2020

Piece description from the artist

I took this image during an extended visit to Weatherford, Texas last spring to be with my father-in-law, who was then in hospice. I would wander the fields around the house each day for a couple of hours, looking at different flowers closely and following the development of their blooms. The purchaser can choose to have me frame the print or can do it after receipt of the purchase. Costs of framing depend on the frame desired.

About Marc Kittner

Philadelphia, PA

Marc focuses on things that most people overlook, getting so close to a flower, for instance, that you feel almost inside it. Children take a flower and hold it 6 inches from their noses, inspecting it closely and without distraction. Adults do the same when exposed to a large image, their vision completely filled by a natural wonder. Marc has no formal training in photography; just experience over the last 45 years.

Marc is currently focused on botanical subjects primarily: ones where you can recognize the plant and ones where he is so close that the bloom becomes abstracted. He likes to know each specimen intimately. Marc takes his time with an individual subject each day, with multiple sessions over time, assessing different angles as it matures.

Marc takes most of his images in the field on location with natural lighting; his 105 mm macro lens allows him to focus while being only 12 inches from the subject. He occasionally uses a 28-300 mm zoom lens to get closer to a specimen when necessary. Images with “Stacked” in the title are composites; he takes multiple exposures of the subject at different focal lengths, then uses Zerene stacking software to create one crisp image.
