Where the Day Slows Down

Piece description from the artist

I made this photograph at the edge of a field as the sun was dropping low, when everything feels quiet and slow. The birds lifting into the sky, the tall grass catching the light, and that lone tree glowing from within all came together beautifully. Moments like this remind me that beauty exists everywhere.

This image matters to me because it holds a sense of arrival and release at the same time. When I imagine it on a wall, I see it offering calm and an invitation to pause, breathe, and remember that there are places where the world still moves at a human pace. It’s the kind of photograph that gently resets a room and the people inside it.

About Jerred Zegelis

Omaha, NE

Jerred Zegelis was a public high school teacher for almost 20 years before becoming a full-time artist, using a camera as his primary means of expression. Zegelis infuses his love of the natural world into his photography, specifically thinking of the ways local artists interact with the world around them. He does not focus on mountains or oceans, large cities and tropical paradises and instead turns his lens toward the common dirt roads, prairies and open skies of the midwest. He has worked on many large-scale photography projects with another healthcare photographer, and making high-resolution imagery is his primary focus now for large spaces.
