Soft waves of pink, red, green, and purple from the Northern Lights ripple across the night sky above Fellows Lake in Springfield, Missouri, creating one of those rare, timeless wow moments that words barely capture. Subtle hints of green begin to emerge as the aurora shifts and dances, its colors mirrored in the calm water below as they glide across the sky adding touch of magic to an already unforgettable night.
On October 10, 2025, the Aurora Borealis surged into storm mode with a powerful KP index of 8.67, pushing its visibility far beyond the northern horizon and as far south as Florida. Choosing to step out on a busy weeknight turned out to be the perfect decision. This was only the second time I’ve ever witnessed the Northern Lights, but the first time they were clearly visible with the naked eye here that I have seen. The first time I saw it, the magic lived only through the camera; this time, it happened right in front of us.
