The geometric structures found within natural forms that are revealed through magnification, and microscopic views of growth processes of nature, are the source material for my paintings. I have also used geometry in a more imaginary diagrammatic way to engage with the hidden dimensions of natural processes.
A sense of space evolves from multiple layers, and the accumulation of forms. Pictorial references may seem familiar but are intentionally abstracted and remain elusive.
Rosalyn Richards often uses printed material as a stimulus for an idea, and works in a collage manner by reconstructing found images from scientific sources. She investigates inner structures of forms from nature and images from biology, particle physics, satellite photography, biotechnology, and geological survey maps, have all served as influences. Her goal has been to transform this scientific, rational material into a personal, introspective poetic visual language.
Her work has won awards in numerous national and international exhibitions, and she has been a visiting artist and critic at several universities in the US and in China. Her work is represented in many museum and corporate art collections and her large drawing installation, Footprints, was recently added to the permanent collection of the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia. She has a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design, and an MFA from Yale University School of Art.
