Vintage Ritchey Mill

Piece description from the artist

A beautiful fall afternoon at the historic Ritchey Mill near Granby, Missouri where the charm of the past still stands along the banks of Shoal Creek. Originally built in 1874, the mill has endured multiple rebuilds after fires in 1890 and again in 1936, each time rising again as a symbol of resilience and local history.

Surrounded by hints of autumn color, a few trees display warm seasonal tones beneath a bright blue sky dotted with soft, white clouds. The weathered wooden structure carries the character of its long history, while the vivid red water wheel stands out boldly, adding a striking contrast against the rustic exterior.

Once known for producing fresh, water-ground white cornmeal through the mid-20th century, the mill remains a meaningful landmark of the area’s heritage. Though located on private property, it continues to be cared for and occasionally shared during special events, offering a rare glimpse into a piece of Missouri’s past, captured here from the quiet edge of the creek.
