Vertical Viewpoint of Roughlock Falls

This vertical photograph captures the beauty of Roughlock Falls, where Little Spearfish Creek tumbles over rocky ledges through a lush, forested canyon in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Layers of cascading water wind between moss covered rocks, surrounded by towering trees and vibrant greenery that create a beautiful natural setting.

I used a long exposure to give the rushing water a smooth, silky look as it flows down the uneven rock formations. The bright white cascades stand out against the deep greens and warm golden tones of the surrounding moss and vegetation, bringing out the wonderful textures and colors of this scenic waterfall.

Located in South Lawrence near Lead, SD, Roughlock Falls is a favorite destination for photographers, hikers, and nature lovers visiting Spearfish Canyon. You can reach the falls by taking an easy half mile roundtrip walk from the nearby parking area or enjoy a longer two mile roundtrip hike along Little Spearfish Creek. With its beautiful waterfalls, rugged canyon scenery, and wooded trails, this area is a wonderful place to experience the natural beauty of the Black Hills.
