Vanishing Rhino

Jessica Moon Bernstein was raised in Ohio by a Nicaraguan Arab mother and a Russian Irish father. She studied art and International Relations at the University of Colorado and the Instituto Internacional in Madrid, Spain. Following her undergraduate degree, she lived in a yurt in Mongolia for 3 years working for the US Peace Corps and the United Nations. She has traveled extensively in North and Latin America, Europe, and Asia, has received numerous grants and awards, and was an artist in residence at Anderson Ranch Art Center located near Aspen, Colorado. Her notable exhibitions include: Footprints at Redline for the Biennial of the Americas in Denver; Detritus, which showed at the Houston Art League, TX; the Dairy Center for the Arts in Boulder; Ourrubberous at the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art where she installed a site-specific installation made with 10,000 discarded and punctured bike inner tubes; Art of the State, a juried show exhibiting the work of Colorado artists; Site Brooklyn Gallery; and most recently a large outdoor mural for Streetwise Art Festival in Boulder, Colorado. Her work has been purchased by private collectors, hotels, and real estate companies. Jessica Moon works with a wide variety of materials including discarded plastic bags, punctured bicycle inner tubes, and melting ice. Most recently, she has been using discarded paper materials to create 2D mixed media pieces that show the beauty she observes while adventuring out in the natural world. Through her work, she hopes to inspire and remind audiences of what we have as well as what we stand to lose if we do not take action. When not making art, Jessica is often adventuring outdoors or teaching art to children and young adults in Boulder, Colorado.
