Up and Down Blues

Piece description from the artist

INVITED
The Lakeland Art Guild was founded in 1952 and is the oldest community organization in Polk County, FL. For the past 48 years, the LAG Melvin Gallery Art Exhibition has hosted some of the most talented artists from all over the region. This year, for the 49th Exhibition, the LAG has gone national. We are proud to present to you the Lakeland Art Guild 49th Annual Melvin Gallery Art Exhibition, which features an enormous amount of talented artists from all over the United States!

Latest (040821) work in the Wash Buckle series. Instead of working to keep the moist paper flat, the work takes what the paper 'gives it' – using the peaks and valleys to promote texture and depth. Successive washes in alternating media are intended to produce subtle variations in texture and depth, as well. First of the series to utilize two colors.

Thus, Wash Buckle, which, also, is a nod toward Tampa's pirate-centric culture.

Mark A. Lembo
Script M Abstract Art

It's all about the execution, exploration, and evolution of an idea.

His work blurs the distinction between alcohol ink and watercolor; working with dyes, inks, liquid acrylic, liquid watercolor, and other aqueous media – mixed or used individually. The work has both dynamic and passive qualities. Lately, he has been incorporating metallic watercolor and pearlescent ink to his work.

In 2022, Mark was elected to the PAVA Board of Trustees, and now serves as Secretary. He is also a Gobioff Foundation micro-grant recipient, as well as a Professional Development grant recipient from the Arts Council of Hillsborough County, in Tampa.
