Black and white photograph collaged onto stretched canvas with sketches and actual leaves, then painted with acrylic glazes and colored pencils. Text of the story of Gideon, who was visited by an angel under the shade of an oak tree, from Judges chapter 6, is also collaged on the piece.
Judith Monroe is a photo-based mixed media artist born and raised in California. She creates works with photos that blend into color, texture, and hidden treasures waiting for discovery. Layers of physical materials like photos and paint, represent layers of meaning. Judith finds inspiration by exploring the landscape and examining the natural things she finds. Her artworks are included in public and private collections from Sacramento to Scotland and shown in galleries in California and Arizona.
