Tribune Tower – Howells & Hood (NYC) – 1925 – Chicago, Illinois
Neo-Gothic, 463 feet, 34 floors
Designated Chicago Landmark – 1989
Tribune Tower was commissioned by the legendary Tribune publisher Colonel Robert R. McCormack, holding an international contest for "the most beautiful and eye-catching office building in the world". The firm chosen was Howells & Hood out of New York City, inspired by the Button Tower of the cathedral at Rouen, France. It was only the second office building to be constructed on the North side of the great Chicago River, along what would become known as "The Magnificent Mile". It was designated a landmark, and has been named one of Chicago's Top 40 buildings.

Ashland grew up in Southeast Virginia surrounded by lush rural landscapes, great protected swamp lands, national & state parks, the Chesapeake Bay, the Eastern Shore, the breathtaking Skyline Drive & Blue Ridge Mountains, and the inlets & oceans of Virginia & North Carolina.
It was this constant variation in natural beauty that first drew his eye to the camera; that, and the constant joy of capturing life's candid moments on film. Although no particular subject is banned from the lens of Ashland's camera, it is landscapes, cityscapes, wildlife, and nature that truly captures his heart.
