I love combining textures and trees. This time the texture emerged from water.

About Estelle Disch

Cambridge, MA

Estelle Disch is a retired sociology professor who has been passionate about photography since snapping an image of her first-grade class with her Brownie Hawkeye in 1949. In the 1970’s she took workshops with Ansel Adams and fell in love with silver prints. But reality entered and she stayed with her academic career, facing that it was unlikely that she’d be able to support herself making images. And while she loved her academic career, there was always a part of her who longed to spend more time with her camera. In 2007 she took a class in Photoshop and knew immediately that her post-retirement commitment would be to digital photography with an emphasis on transforming many of her images into imagined realities and abstract art. In 2011 she became a Teaching Assistant in Photoshop classes at New England School of Photography, happily helping others learn that amazing program.

Estelle’s work has appeared in 5 solo or two-person shows, including a collaborative show with Cuban artist Diana Balboa in Havana. She has had 10 images accepted into juried shows and her work is on 5 book covers. She was selected as one of 9 artists to participate in an innovative Art Share program in Cambridge, MA in 2016. Her art has also been part of 6 art loan programs.
