Piece description from the artist

This piece is from a series called Riffing Pools which emerged out of a desire to explore the intuitive and spontaneous potential of embroidery thread and paint stains. Embroidery lends itself to meticulous and slow stitching, and pre-determined patterns. But what happens when stitching becomes more raw, improvisational and expressive on its own, without adhering to recognizable imagery? I don't “fix” what would usually be thought of mistakes in the stitching – tangles and loose ends, oversized, awkward stitches- but instead respond to them intuitively. The paint stains, drips, ruptured and tattered canvas, contribute to this raw aesthetic.
