Towering Lower Calf Creek Falls Vertical Grayscale

Piece description from the artist

The majestic Lower Calf Creek Falls plunges 130 feet over a towering sandstone cliff in Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument near Boulder, Utah. Standing before this incredible waterfall was an experience I won't soon forget. Its size, beauty, and the sound of the cascading water were absolutely mesmerizing. The longer I stood there, the harder it became to leave.

In this vertical black and white photograph, I chose a low perspective that highlights the scattered rocks and sandy canyon floor leading your eyes toward the crystal-clear pool at the base of the falls and then the waterfall. The composition helps convey the immense scale of the waterfall as it descends from the cliffs above into this refreshing desert oasis.

Reaching Lower Calf Creek Falls requires a hike of more than six miles round trip, with much of the trail crossing deep desert sand as it follows Calf Creek through a spectacular canyon of sandstone formations. While the journey can be challenging, every step is rewarded when the waterfall finally comes into view.

This long exposure captures one of Utah's most beautiful natural treasures, where flowing water, towering canyon walls, and the rugged desert landscape come together to create an unforgettable scene in the heart of the American Southwest.
