Piece description from the artist
For this painting titled "Three Swallows," I first applied sand and mortar with an Acrylic binder to give the surface of this painting a gritty texture. Then, I layered soft tones of turquoise, blue, and violet. From there, I applied antique gold and white with a palette knife to add more texture and dimension. Finally, I strategically placed three swallows for visual balance. The swallows circle in and around the canvas over the underlying layers of paint. For me, the layers of mediums are just as important as the birds to make this piece work in its simplicity and convey a peaceful and meditative quality.
The natural world and her love for animals inspire Dara Daniel's Acrylic on canvas, mixed-media paintings. She combines bold colors and shapes and lots of textures to create fun, playful interpretations of horses and other animal spirits.
For all her paintings, she combines all the available elements of design to express rhythms and energy and moods and emotion. Dara explains, "Each painting experience is unique yet, my goal for all my paintings is to capture a degree of nature's passionate spirit, joy, and beauty."
