The Winter Monarchs

Piece description from the artist

The Winter Monarchs is a large white oil painting in semi-abstract art nouveau style of two deer, a stag and a doe, in a winter landscape. It is 40×40×1.5 inches. Two deer stand looking imperiously at the viewer. The female is as proud as the male and it is easy to imagine them as monarchs in the way that they are posing as if for a formal portrait. Deer have this ability to look scared, slightly annoyed and defiant all at the same time once they see you and will try to out stare you if they can. The inspiration for the painting is simply me wanting to capture the beauty of red deer, especially when you see them in the snow and ice of winter as you can in Scotland. It was made using many layers of paint with very thick impasto white paint to add texture as the final layer. Painted on deep edge canvas, edges white, ready hang and comes with certificate of authenticity. #deer #winter #white #white painting.

About Gill Bustamante

Forest Row, East Sussex, England, United Kingdom

I am a Sussex based artist who paints large semi-abstract oils that aim to capture, not just the visual echoes of a location, but its scents, sounds, and spiritual energies. They are inspired during my regular walks in landscapes and any encounters with wildlife and birds.
My paintings are completely unique in style.
I often paint from memory as it better allows me to move beyond traditional realism and into magical realism using colour, texture and light to express the magic I sense in wild meadows, forests, seas and rivers.
My technique is rooted in traditional oil painting as I build each piece with layers of glaze, texture, and intuitive, art nouveau like, brush stokes, letting the painting evolve organically in a controlled chaos.
Animals, pathways, and portals are recurring motifs in my painting’s, often as symbols of the mysteries that lie just beyond the visible. I am fascinated by the folklore and hidden stories woven into the countryside.
I regard my paintings as a captured universes and moments of time. I hope to inspire a deeper appreciation for the natural world and its wildlife and to encourage its protection as well as to provide a place for viewers to escape beyond the mundane and be more curious about the spiritual…
