The schoolhouse v

The Schoolhouse (v)

Piece description from the artist

A very old wooden schoolhouse, no longer in use, found on the Kansas plains. What stories does this place hold?

The original piece was a mixed media painting containing multiple layers of acrylic paints, vintage ephemera from the mid 1800s-1900s (including ads, receipts, ledgers and letters) anchored by the artist's photography to create a vintage inspired piece of contemporary western art.

About Jc Spock

Colorado Springs, CO

JC Spock is a mixed media artist who specializes in contemporary western art with a vintage twist. Her unique process incorporates multiple layers of acrylic paint, ink, pastel, pencil and vintage ephemera (i.e. ledgers, postcards, receipts and ads from the late 1800s/early 1900s) with her photography – or vintage black and white photos for her depression-era series. The layers of ephemera provide historical context to her photographs and her work speaks to a bygone era in a modern way.

A self-described old soul, JC is drawn to old buildings, old paper and old history. Of her work, she says, “I love to photograph the West as I see it and interpret the story through the paint, paper and photography incorporated in each piece." The artist is inspired by the history and aesthetics of the American West and the concept of nostalgia.
