About John Germain

Miami, FL

The works of John Germain have been widely exhibited and collected in New York City, Los Angeles and Miami.
Known for his attention to the subtleties of color and light, Germain's works, whether they be in the category of traditional still life/interior views or the exterior realms of metaphysical imagination, radiate an overall expansive space. Labor-intensive, quietly composed and open-ended, the paintings and collages display Germain’s command of the nuances of mixed media application.

Born in Buffalo, New York, in 1954, Germain lived in New York City and Los Angeles before settling in Miami in 1993. He is a graduate of Ithaca College and The Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. Public collections of his work are found at the Bass Museum of Art, the Bronx Museum, Citicorp Group Miami, General Electric Corporation, The Albright-Knox Art Gallery and the Springfield Museum of Art. His work is also in private collections, including those of Diane von Furstenberg, Ross Bleckner, Barry Diller, and David Geffen.

The artist’s website (www.johngermain.com) includes excerpts from his journals and essays which give insight into his creative process, as well as current and selected older works.
