The great american eclipse 3 of 13

The Great American Eclipse (3 of 13)

Piece description from the artist

On August 21, 2017, a total solar eclipse cut a swath across the United States from Oregon to South Carolina. I was lucky enough to be within a few minutes drive of the Path of Totality. These 13 photos were taken before and during the totality. In the partial eclipse photos you will notice a couple of sunspots in the lower left hand portion of the sun's disk. In the totality photos, you can clearly see the solar corona and, in a couple of photos, you will see solar prominences extending beyond the limb of the moon. These photos were taken at the Cooley Lake Conservation Area on the banks of the Missouri River, located along Missouri Highway 210 between Liberty, MO and Orrick, MO. This is the 3rd of 13 photos taken today.

About Joe Calton

Independence, MO

Joe Calton became hooked on photography at the age of 13 after joining the 8th grade Photography Club. His first camera was an all plastic "Diana" model from a dimestore that set him back $7.00. The club shot all B&W so they could develop their own negatives and make their own prints. It was a valuable learning experience and sparked an enthusiasm that has not diminished over the decades. He enjoys heading out on "photo safaris", sometimes with a particular subject or target in mind, but other times letting his muse guiding him with an eye peeled for the serendipitous discovery. Joe has a particular love for architecture, Americana, macro photography and turning common, everyday subjects into abstract images.
