Piece description from the artist
This piece is collaged from up-cycled paper, and depicts my daughter at three years old, deeply immersed in her marvelous imagination. One of the great treasures we get when we spend time with small children is a window into the world once again.
Elena Skoreyko is a Canadian illustrator, picture book maker and paper artist living in York, UK. Her work has appeared in Flow magazine, the New York Times online and The Marginalian. Elena’s work comprises lovingly collected paper scraps imbued with their own histories, delicately snipped and pieced together to convey intimate, emotive stories and experiences. Her work is at once relatable, focusing on ordinary life, and quietly triumphant, celebrating the wonder and magic that exist there. She holds a BFA in visual art and a Master of Science degree in occupational therapy; both inform her creative practice.
Elena can be found most days creating a rainbow tornado of snippets in her attic studio atop the wonky victorian terraced house she shares with her German husband, three kids, and countless ongoing DIY projects.
Elena is represented by Carrie Hannigan at HG Literary.
