The Eldritch Hart

Piece description from the artist

The Eldritch Hart is a large original oil painting of a frosty January morning in England with a lone deer hart watching from the shadows of the path. It is a 48×36×1.5 inches oil on canvas. It is semi-abstract and unique in style and seems to shimmer between reality and abstract. The painting was inspired by a walk I took in the Lewes, South Downs area of England in January 2025. The frost made the colours muted yellows, purples, blues and browns. The day felt magical and full of the promise of spring to come. Nature held in suspension and only the birds were active (they start to sing again in January as soon as the days start to get longer). I did see deer on this walk and they never fail to make me happy. I have tried to not only capture the colours and temperature and details of this landscape, such as the low sun through the trees and the bare trees and frosty fields, but also the energy and feeling of it. Painted on deep edge canvas, edges white, ready to hang and comes with a certificate of authenticity. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OG1tlPNn9Xg

About Gill Bustamante

Forest Row, East Sussex, England, United Kingdom

I am a Sussex based artist who paints large semi-abstract oils that aim to capture, not just the visual echoes of a location, but its scents, sounds, and spiritual energies. They are inspired during my regular walks in landscapes and any encounters with wildlife and birds.
My paintings are completely unique in style.
I often paint from memory as it better allows me to move beyond traditional realism and into magical realism using colour, texture and light to express the magic I sense in wild meadows, forests, seas and rivers.
My technique is rooted in traditional oil painting as I build each piece with layers of glaze, texture, and intuitive, art nouveau like, brush stokes, letting the painting evolve organically in a controlled chaos.
Animals, pathways, and portals are recurring motifs in my painting’s, often as symbols of the mysteries that lie just beyond the visible. I am fascinated by the folklore and hidden stories woven into the countryside.
I regard my paintings as a captured universes and moments of time. I hope to inspire a deeper appreciation for the natural world and its wildlife and to encourage its protection as well as to provide a place for viewers to escape beyond the mundane and be more curious about the spiritual…
