Piece description from the artist
A portal of awakening. Through the portal series I create graphic, geometric gateways to inspire a shift in consciousness. When you experience my portal, I want it to act as a reminder to take a deep breath, enter the “portal,” and tune into your higher self where you can access higher vibrational energies and expanded awareness.
Manoela Madera is a Puerto Rican painter whose work explores transformation, memory, and the symbolic relationships between people, objects, and place. Working with acrylic, oil, oil pastels, and mixed media on reclaimed wood and canvas, she creates layered compositions that blur the boundaries between abstraction and representation while inviting viewers to discover personal meaning within them. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, and her professional experience in visual archives, design, and creative direction has shaped her sensitivity to material, composition, and storytelling. Influenced by the Caribbean landscape, mythology, natural cycles, and the histories embedded in found objects, Madera's practice examines how meaning accumulates through time and lived experience. Her paintings offer spaces for contemplation rather than fixed narratives, encouraging viewers to form their own connections with the symbols, textures, and rhythms that emerge throughout her work. Her work has been exhibited in Puerto Rico and the United States and is held in private collections.
