Sun rising illuminates the Jefferson Memorial and Tidal Basin with bright pink cherry blossoms framing the monument. The Cherry Blossom festival in Washington DC is a favorite, but to get super artistic images, you first need to be there really early – before the sun even thinks about rising – and you need to be lucky with the weather and timing of the blossoms. Each year I went down to DC to capture those views, but this year, everything worked out perfectly. The sun lit up the monument and the blossoms in front of me. The water was calm and provided a perfect reflection and I had a special filter on my lens that amplified the golden hues of the scene. One of my favorites!
Steve Heap has been a photographer for over 50 years now (which is frightening to think about!) but in that time he has developed an eye for what would make a striking piece of wall art. Photography is all about the light and his finest attribute is patience! Waiting for the conditions to be just right is the key to making a piece of art that you can be proud of. Of course, luck plays a part, but without that patience of being in the right place at the right time, it just becomes a snapshot.
