Summer's End

Piece description from the artist

This painting, titled Summer’s End, celebrates the change of seasons with the image of the heavy head of a sunflower, bowing under its own weight in the late afternoon sunshine. It captures a moment of poignant beauty during the transition from one season to the next, the sunflower lit from behind by a soft, glowing white light. I walked past this sunflower on a street in my neighborhood, and captured some photos of the sunlight glowing on its leaves and petals, and I had to paint it! This art brings to mind that moment when it’s not yet autumn, but we can feel the autumn coming. It’s harvest-time. The summer sun is still hot, but there’s something about the change in the slant of the sunlight that makes us feel ready for the fall to begin. The warm yellow-green and orange colors fill us with happiness.
