Piece description from the artist
I was commissioned to do a painting of the house, but what caught my eye were these mustardy chairs on the inviting screen porch. I think they would have appealed to Van Gogh or Carl Larsson, two of my favorite painters.
Leslie Anderson lives and paints in Maine. In the summer, she and her husband live downeast on a flower farm in Sedgwick, where she paints the landscape of the Blue Hill Peninsula and Deer Isle in oils and watercolors. In the winter, she works in her Portland studio, depicting half-remembered images from her days of summer painting and exploring the internal landscape of still life. Whether out-of-doors or in her studio, her artistic concerns are the same: juxtaposing light against dark, invoking pattern and repetition, and layering sumptuous, harmonious color. Her work in included in corporate and private collections around the world.
