Starry night 8

Starry Night

Piece description from the artist

I don't camp often, but when I do I make the most of it. This short nighttime exposure caught the stars, a hint of the milky way, and the beautiful redwoods lit by the campfire. A canopy of stars over a canopy of trees.

About Jenifer Greer

Portland , OR

While photography is my second career choice (I grew up in the wild west of the internet days coding and producing websites for studios and large firms) it has always been my first love. I’ve been shooting since I was a kid and always made homemade darkrooms in my closets or laundry room. I still kind of miss the smell of the chemicals. Landscapes and cityscapes were my favorite subjects back in the day.

I grew up in Toronto, Canada and moved to Los Angeles, California when I was 21 (I'm very luckily to have dual citizenship, or as I like to say, I am a Canarican). After enjoying the boom of the dot-com world, I left just in time before the bubble burst and decided to put myself through photography school. I turned my love of photography into a successful wedding & portrait business in Los Angeles for over 15 years. And that was after saying I would NEVER photograph a wedding (never say never, right?) Photographing weddings, for me, had been one of the most rewarding and creative outlets I could have ever found. The sheer pressure of responsibility to capture all of these once in a lifetime moments, the extreme pace of the day, and trying to keep cool throughout was eye opening for me. It also allowed me to attempt an array of different kinds of shots, as you need to be a "Jack of all Trades" when capturing these kinds of days – portraits of course, but also natural candids and photojournalism of the guests, food shots of all the wonderful meals & drinks, architecture to capture the essence of the venues, and attention to details by shooting all that my clients poured their hearts into planning and photographing the flowers, rings, details of dresses. I gained a huge amount of respect for the art and craft of documenting weddings, and the honor I had of capturing these moments & their families for my clients. I thrived on what once seemed to be a daunting task and loved documenting these amazing days.

After my second son was born, Portland, Oregon was my next adventure. After visiting good friends for years, I fell in love with this city and made it a mission to be the next place I would set roots. I now am focusing more on my art and capturing spots & places that make this town weird & wonderful. Travel is another huge priority in my life and merging with my camera with roaming new places creating pieces of art of places through my lens is my current focus.
