Piece description from the artist
A beautiful late spring evening at the Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge in Cape Girardeau, with soft pink clouds glowing from the sunset behind me. The cable-stayed span rises over the swollen waters of the Mississippi River, which is running high after recent heavy rains. I composed the scene with trees in the foreground, naturally framing the bridge and drawing the eye toward its softly illuminated structure.
Completed in 2004, the bridge carries Interstate 74 across the river, linking Missouri with East Cape Girardeau, Illinois. It replaced the historic 1929 crossing and was named after Bill Emerson, who served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1981 to 1996. The bridge also gained cinematic recognition with its appearance in Gone Girl, adding to its iconic presence along the riverfront.
