Snail life

Snail life

Piece description from the artist

The Nakalele blowhole on the north shore of Maui has rock formations teaming with life, fed by the ever-present wash of ocean that surges over the rocks as the giant waves roll in. These tiny snails live in the indentations created by the wash of sea, sand and erosion of weather, under the water at times, exposed at times. Whoever said life on Maui was all sun and fun can look to these creatures for what a harsher environment is.

About Christopher Grieder

Palm Springs, CA

Christopher ‘Kit’ Grieder lives in Palm Springs, CA, happily avoiding winter but seriously wondering if summer is now his enemy. Many years ago, he graduated from Metropolitan State University with a degree in Industrial Design and an avid interest in art and design. After several years of working at everything from advertising design to contract management, he set working life aside and became a free man, able to concentrate on growing things and creating art.

His love of everything green and growing informs his particular bent on his artistic sensibilities. Patterns, textures, light and shadow draw him in and pull the artistic ideas right out. He works in digital media, using photos to start the process that results in abstraction, as well as un-retouched photography and mixed media drawings. His goal for his work is that is fills the visual senses with patterns of color drawn from nature, that fill the brain with nature’s elements of art. When he’s not working on something creative, Christopher is either out puttering around the yard, or maybe drinking wine on the rooftop.
