Smooth Waters At Shell Island Florida

A peaceful afternoon along the shores of Shell Island in Panama City Beach, Florida, USA, features the stunning beauty of this unique Gulf Coast destination. Accessible only by boat, this remote area of shoreline offers visitors a chance to experience a quieter side of the coast away from the busy beaches. I captured this as a long exposure which smooths out the waters into a ghostly affest for extra tranquility.

Although commonly called an island, Shell Island is actually a peninsula, a 7-mile barrier island that forms the southern portion of St. Andrews State Park. Known for its clear waters, abundant seashells, and excellent snorkeling opportunities, it is a favorite destination for those looking to explore Florida's coastal landscape.

During our visit, we spent about 3½ hours enjoying the beach, searching for shells, and taking in the peaceful surroundings. I even waded out waist-deep into the water to find some of the largest shells I have personally discovered, though there were fewer than I expected. Visiting shortly after spring break season may have meant many of the best finds had already been collected by other beachcombers.
