Piece description from the artist

This is a mixed media piece based upon microscopic views of cells and other natural forms. Some of the patterns are invented, and the piece is layered with printed material and collage elements. Some of the printed material was run through an etching press using photocopy transfers, and relief printing from carved woodblocks. It is very atmospheric and evocative, leading to multiple interpretations, but primarily based on the mysteries hidden within magnified views of nature and natural processes.

About Rosalyn Richards

Lewisburg, PA

Rosalyn Richards often uses printed material as a stimulus for an idea, and works in a collage manner by reconstructing found images from scientific sources. She investigates inner structures of forms from nature and images from biology, particle physics, satellite photography, biotechnology, and geological survey maps, have all served as influences. Her goal has been to transform this scientific, rational material into a personal, introspective poetic visual language.

Her work has won awards in numerous national and international exhibitions, and she has been a visiting artist and critic at several universities in the US and in China. Her work is represented in many museum and corporate art collections and her large drawing installation, Footprints, was recently added to the permanent collection of the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia. She has a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design, and an MFA from Yale University School of Art.
