Piece description from the artist
I knew exactly one thing about Juneau: it's the capital city Alaska. I didn't understand just how unique it is. Although its attached directly to the continent, it's completely isolated. Accessible only via boat or plane, it might as well be an island. Although it serves as the seat of government for the largest state in the Union, its tallest building stands only about a dozen stories tall. Its population of just over 30,000 huddles around a busy cruise ship terminal and a tiny downtown with just one small outlying "suburb" hugging the airport and Auke Bay.
But Immediately surrounding the small city and interspersed throughout is a lush, temperate rainforest filled with wildlife. The environment is more like Vancouver or Seattle than the bitter tundra that used to be in my mind's eye when I thought of "Alaska."
Currently located in Washington, DC, Scott is a native Floridian photographer specializing in landscape photography. His work explores the interplay of light and dark — rejecting the notion that photography is just “painting with light.” He seeks what resides in the contrast — the liminal spaces of the world.
Scott has shot in some of the most beautiful locations in the world, including Iceland and locations throughout the Old World. But some of his most inspiring locations are right at home in America's enchanting National Parks.
