Shibuichi

Shibuichi

Piece description from the artist

Ornate patterns are a strong interest in my work. Probably going back to my studies in Asian Art in college. I have a background in metalsmithing and jewelry. When I'm not creating digital art, I explore new ways of working with metals. Shibuichi is an ancient Japanese alloy of 75% copper and 25% fine silver that I recently made. The alloy is a shimmering pink color. The two metals are melted together in a crucible and later rolled out in a mill to form sheet metal.
This piece reminds me of the incredible design tradition of Japanese artists.

About Teri Brudnak

Capistrano Beach, CA

Teri Brudnak has been drawing and painting since childhood. She grew up in a small town in the high desert in California. Her love of light and color comes from the intense desert landscape of brilliant sunsets and clear starry night skies. She watched her father fly F15 jets for the Air Force. This sparked a life long interest in technology and science fiction.

During her undergraduate studies in Art at Calif State University Long Beach, she encountered inspiring artists in the Jewelry/Metals program. Drawn to the ancient art of Metalsmithing, Teri studied Silversmithing, Jewelry and Bronze Sculpture. Her interest in Art and Technology led to explorations in holography, electronics for jewelry and glass working. As technology became more available to artists, she began to work with early computers to create video and 3D models. Her expertise in digital media has grown to include 3D Fractals and Animation.

Drawing and Painting still remain central to her work—both with traditional media and virtual. She is able to merge her traditional artist’s skills with new electronic media in many innovative ways.

She has exhibited her work both nationally and internationally in galleries and exhibitions in the US, Italy, Korea, Japan and Indonesia.
