Sherbet skies

Sherbet Skies

Piece description from the artist

I was sitting on a sandbar in the middle of the Nenana River, watching the most electric, fast moving, incredible Northern Lights display I'd ever seen (and I have seen many), when all of a sudden a dark purple finger, like nothing i have ever seen before or since, starts slowly moving across the sky from the left side. The lights around it were moving so fast I had to change my camera settings so they didn't look like a blurry mess, and this finger just kept creeping across with the frenetic display around it I still don't know exactly what I witnessed, but it's here in this picture.

About Sara Chieco

Oakland, CA

Formally trained in Mathematics, Computer Science, and Fine Art (left + right brained they say), by day (and nights) I specify and design software for non-profits to help them increase their program capacity and efficiency through better use of technology. Whew! Yes, I try to be a do-gooder and make an impact in whatever small way I can. Which means that by vacation and weekends I take photographs, which is my current passion.

I am also a ceramic artist, woodworker, welder, and I work with an amazing, passionate group of artists called Five Ton Crane, to create large-scale community art as well. In my "spare time" which is hard to come by, I am an avid knitter, rock climber, and gardener.

I hope my love of the outdoors comes through in my Nature Photography – living in the Bay Area in California make me one of the most fortunate people in the world. The nature right outside my door is breathtaking, my garden bountiful year-round, and the weather wonderful.
