Piece description from the artist
This painting depicts a nighttime scene in which a circle of giant sequoia trees stands under the stars, with the Milky Way spread across the sky above. Giant sequoia trees are often found still standing strong after their centers have been hollowed out by forest fires. In the foreground is the hollow center of one such tree, where you can look all the way through the tree, like looking through a window.
The brilliant blue on the left of the canvas shifts to a light greenish turquoise at the bottom. The light shining from the bottom gives the feeling that there may be a bright full moon in the sky, obscured by the tree at the bottom.
