A view looking through Scovel Johnson Tunnel along Iron Mountain Road in Keystone, South Dakota towards Mount Rushmore National Memorial. I captured this photograph looking west. It is a narrow, single-lane hand carved granite passageway along the scenic 17-mile US-16A highway in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Also part of Custer State Park, this tunnel was carved in the 1930's to frame the iconic carved mountain featuring four US Presidents. A mostly cloudy sky above adds some contrast and drama. This one is just under 11 inches wide and 11 inches tall making it a one lane tunnel allowing vehicles of limited size. It is pretty cool to drive through.
